Welcome to the live coverage of tonight's qualification round match between the Silver Ferns and Jamaica. The teams have just been called into the arena now.
Teams out warming out, umpires have just been introduced.....they're Australians Sharon Kelly and Michelle Phippard.
The Silver Ferns have stuck with the same starting 7 that took the court in Sunday's impressive 52-47 win over Aussie ... can they get the same result?
The last time these teams played, was at last year's Commonwealth Games. NZ won by eight, but it wasn't pretty. Jamaica led at half time and reaped huge rewards from playing Romelda Aiken at GK.
Romelda is at GS tonight.
Just a reminder, we're in the second round now so the teams are back to a clean slate. The top eight have been divided into two groups and will play another round robin before this weekend's finals. But both Jamaica and NZ are expected to make the semifinals regardless of the outcome of tonight's match.
The results from the day so far:
Samoa 49 Singapore 39
Trinidad & Tobago 66 Zambia 39
South Africa 68 Wales 40
Malawi 59 Uganda 53
Fiji 77 Sri Lanka 31
Scotland 37 Barbados 34
I'm guessing those scores are as expected...
The teams are taking the court now...big cheer for Casey Kopua from the crowd
Laura Langman also popular with the crowd.
There really is an array of natty headgear from the NZ supporters. There are so many tour groups here and they are so much more buoyant than they were prior to the aussie game
First goal to Jamaica 1-nil.
First turnover - held ball Jamaica.
But it's been thrown away by the Ferns up the other end.
Well, someone had to say it.
Raining bombs early from Tutaia.
First real break here, NZ convert the turnover and have the centre pass.
Speed from Cullen to win that ball for NZ, working into the circle now with a precision feed from Langman.
The Jamaican defence very niggly early on. A couple of late challenges from GD Vangelee Williams
Ferns defence doing a great job keeping Romelda quiet early on, she's only had two shots so far.
Jamaicans call time to regroup and there's high five from the Ferns.
Mes 5/6, Tutaia 5/5
Aiken 2/2, Beckford, 3/3
You definitely get the sense the Australians in the crowd would like to Jamaica take this one out.
Jamaicans have come out well since the timeout and are starting to find Aiken a little easier. NZ yet to score since the break.
Great ball into Aiken from the throw in and the gap is back to one 10-9
from Mes off the Tutaia miss - she was telling Mes the shot was off, and her mate helped her out
Turnovers everywhere, and it's eventually back with the Jamaicans. Although no one knows what that call was for.
In your face! Kopua with the perfect timing to reject the pass in, and it's Ferns ball again. It's remarkable to see the growth of Kopua this week.
Stepping call against Rasmussen will give JAM one more go before the end of the quarter.
But NZ has disrupted enough for a handy little lead at the end of the 1st
Scoring stats - 1st qtr
Mes 6/7, Tutaia 8/11
Aiken 7/8, Beckford, 4/4
Aiken became much more of a force after the Jamaicans had that T/O. But Kopua is still getting a lot of touches, as she did against Bassett on Sunday.
Interesting penalty count from the first quarter....NZ 22 - 13 JAM. hmmmmm
Easy ball into Aiken for the first goal of the quarter. No "hands over" pressure from the Ferns that time.
Tutaia hits the floor, just tripped slightly and then misses the shot.
Pretty scrappy from both teams at the moment.
Jamaicans have the centre, with the chance to even it up at 16-all.
