No changes for Ferns at quarter time, MAL with first possession.
Francois pinches it back for NZ. She's been very quiet in this match so far playing at WA.
Shows how vital Rasmussen has become to the Ferns.
NZ converts from an outstanding Cullen intercept.
Mes has learned from yesterday - standing absolutely upright and keeping her hands where the umpire can see them in all that pushing around in the circle.
woooahh that's a pass into row A from Mes. Sloppy from NZ
Gap closing again. and a held ball against Francois. I sense a rocket coming at half time.
Lwazi the C has gone down, there's a bit of confusion what's happened, but she's being treated on court.
Lots of chatter, nodding, pats on the back from the Ferns, but after the start they had, they'll be a bit worried by this drop off.
Oh i've been told off for too much chatter of my own. Will give myself a rev up too at half time.
NZ might have got one in that time out because they've gone out to a seven goal advantage, the biggest of the match.
Massive splits from Kumwenda, the way she contorts her body is amazing.
Half time and NZ have regained control 30-24.
Even though they finished the quarter well, the Ferns won't be best pleased with the majority of it.
Silly errors let Malawi get back into it. Francois is struggling at WA so wonder if they'll make a change.
Donna, a kiwi fan from Perth just had the crowd on their feet with her lip-sync to call me maybe.
She got more applause than this match so far! Fingers crossed things pick up in the second.
You all will just have to stick with me as it does!
It's a good point made below. Malawi have improved out of sight in the last couple of years, regular test matches against top sides, a player in the ANZ Championships, and some of the politics seem to be sorted.
Remember they only lost by three to NZ at the last year's Comm Games (let's not go there), although there were extenuating circumstances for the Ferns.
Just the one change it seems coming for the Ferns, and it's now become the traditional one.. de Bruin for Grant.
Early turnover from MAL gives possession to NZ, converted by Mes.
Great shot from Kumenda, despite the massive stretch and lean from Kopua.
Teams again trade turnovers and it's the Ferns who convert for a six goal advantage.
Ugh, again loose from NZ, wasted possession and Kumwenda makes them pay.
Few elbows starting to fly and penalties being called against the MAL defenders.
Biggest lead of the match for NZ
Mes short with the shot and can't get that rebound. She and Kumwenda are the leading offensive rebounders in the comp, but I reckon Mwai has probably crept ahead now.
MAL get a roll on again and NZ call time. Kopua getting some ice on her finger which she hurt when she fell earlier in the match.
MAL so unorthodox, they've gone right back to the GK to try to get their attack going forward!
very hard to get any sort of rhythm or flow against them as NZ is finding.
Bridget Kumwenda drops the shoulder into Cullen, who hits the floor and is called for contact.
completely missed connection between Francois and Mes and it's Malawi ball again.
Brown is getting clobbered by her opposite Mtkule, but you sense NZ are getting a few sneaky ones in too.
Malawi again fighting back brilliantly, they've come to this tournament with genuine belief they can win a medal.
Brain fart, NZ had far more time than they thought and threw it away to allow MAL the last goal of the quarter.
The lead was eight and now just three.
